Due to personal reasons, for the time being, I shall be celebrating Women in Horror Month online, discussing the work of the incredible women I have encountered over the years and looking to what the future looks like for women working in horror. Jennifer xo

"Jennifer’s Bodies is a roving annual festival of female-helmed horror movies and part of Women In Horror Recognition Month, an international assortment of affiliated events organised partly to highlight just how much women can and do contribute to the genre outwith the typically accepted factors of tits, ass and mezzosoprano screaming." Jennifer's Bodies 2014 Special Feature - A Look into the Work of Karen Lam, Featuring her New Feature Evangeline and a Number of Her Shorts as Well.

So it is with great pleasure that I can announce a rather bad ass addition into Jennifer's Bodies 2014.  Not only will I be showing a number of shorts from Vancouver native Karen Lam, I shall also be giving her feature Evangeline its UK premier, or more importantly, as I'm a patriotic Scot...its SCOTTISH premier!! :)

“IF I SHOULD DIE BEFORE I WAKE…”

Evangeline (Kat de Lieva) has left her sheltered upbringing to reinvent herself in college. As she begins to break out of her shell, she attracts the attention of a sociopathic fraternity leader (Richard Harmon) and his two cohorts.

“Beaten and left for dead, Evangeline finds herself trapped in a supernatural nightmare, where she is caught between salvation and vengeance. But to save herself, Evangeline discovers she must make the most horrifying choice of all…

The feature version of Karen's previous Jennifer's Bodies submission Doll Parts, for Evangeline, Karen has gotten herself a fucking amazing cast, including actors who have been in some of my favourite shows of all time!!  For example, Lam regular David Lewis, whom you will also see in The Meeting and Stalled, and who featured in Doll Parts and is way too fucking good at playing a creep, haha.  Citing himself as Madam Lam's "bloody boy toy", I think they have an excellent collaboration going on here, moooahahaha.  Oh yeah, and he was in The X Files!!  BWAH!!  :)

Not only does she have an X Files boy in Evangline however, she also has Richard Harmon from both The Killing (pictured below with my beloved Holder...the closest I've ever came to finding Mulder again), and Bates Motel in it!!  This is going to be a very different type of killer than what Harmon's seen in both of those shows though.  Bwahahahaha.

The boys might be awesome, however, it's Kat de Lieva as Evangeline who we really need to look out for!!  That's all I'm gonna say.  Heehee. :)  She is fucking awesome in this, and I can't wait to see more from her as well.  In casting both Harmon and de Lieva, Karen has definitely picked two names that I'd actually recommend going out of your way to check out their work.  And if like Harmon, de Lieva keeps popping up in my favourite shows, it's just going to all the cooler to watch them grow as actors!

Before Evangeline though, I'll be showing a number of Karen's shorts, to show her versatility as a filmmaker, and one who is based in my favourite non Scottish place....the place where ALL the good TV shows are filmed.  I am of course talking about Vancouver!!  Yay!  :)

First up is The Meeting -

In a weekly meet-up, four serial killers confess their sins and hope for redemption. But all hell breaks loose when a newcomer pops in, and threatens to join the group...

Alex Macey is getting divorced. In an underground parking garage an emotional call to his wife cuts out. Returning to his car he confronts a would be car jacker. With violent results.

A dark fairytale about an imaginative little girl who saves a bullied boy, and is granted a secret wish.
